Gary,
Your build date should be on one of the two decals in the drivers door. Provided the doors on your car are the ones it came down the assembly line with. The build plant can be determined in the VIN. Letter 'P' in the 11 position is Pontiac, Michigan while the letter 'R' is the Arlington, Texas assembly plant.

Hope this helps!

You car is definitely a 1987 build year. My car was built in 11/87, but is a 1988 Model year. I know the last Grand National built was on 12/11/87, no g bodies were built in 1988. But I'm not exactly sure what the last date a g body was built is. Wikipedia says the last Monte Carlo built was December 12th 1987, but who knows where that info came from. I understand that the Pontiac Plant where G Bodies were made closed in 1988.

Bob can't thank u enuff very helpful to me. All original on car owned 24 yrs except engine had 350 modified has 85K on it bought in 93 with 45K on it. Just went to EFI it's a dream had blown the engine did a rebuild all new interior except crank & heads which are Eldebrock 202 aluminum heads with new Eldebrock intake. For some reason thank to the great God above dropped a valve, went thru got the lifter which exploded broke the cam got the piston & push rod. God was looking out for this fool no block damage crank damage or head damage so I gutted the 350 went all back thru it with all new stuff the HEI distributor went also beats me on that one. Expensive to rebuild but is right out the box this time again. Hope I didn't bore u stay warm up there am in Louisiana was 85 today

Thanks I am in a pissing contest with some numb nuts putting on a car show in Bossier City La the Red River Hot Rod Car club restricting dated cars to 30 + yrs, so I am a member of this club :( sorry I joined. I looked at registration restrictions said 1986 & back well this math is hosed that to me is 31 yrs not 30. So I emailed the Pres no responce yet & told him just that. Then I thought if the car was built in 87 it's 30 + yrs old so like u say the last real G body was built in 87 that makes mine 30 yrs old or am I wrong? I just need to be sure b4 I say anymore. Am I wrong or off base on this ur opinion is appreciated .
Thx
Gary

Why would the club let you join in the first place if you don't meet the requirements for there shows?

Sound like they just want to brag how many members they have.

Unfortunately, if you get into a pissing match with someone who feels self important you'll never win them over in a grey area once they're dead set against you.

Besides which, they would just take the position that since the anniversary date of the build hasn't passed yet, it isn't a true 30 years.

(You don't call a newborn kid 1 year old just cause the year changes January 1...)

If your car is an 88, it hasn't been 30 years since it was built anyways... in March of 87 they were still rolling 1987s off the assembly line.

Same thing goes across the board. My '87 cutlass supreme was built in June/87 at the Pontiac plant...and is a '87 model year, or 87-1/2 for the sticklers out there. I wanna say anything July-on was considered an 88...whoever is putting on the show just wants to show how big their pull is unfortunately!

Technically my cutlass is 29 years and 9 months old lol....same as the goofy parents calling their 2yr old kid 24 months when asked :blam:!!!! Tell them it's 30 years old, and if they are that nit-picky then it would be time to look for another club to join, or just rock out on your own like my buddies and i do!
