What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2023]

I was thinking more of a sleeper look- handicapped placard, tissue box on the dash, and a AAA bumper sticker. You know they did make the Lacrosse in 08-09 with the 5.3L LS4? Mechanically identical to the Grand Prix GXP and the Impala SS. Front wheel drive is obviously a limitation, but they...

What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2023]

Pretty much. Did all the rear suspension late last year and now all the front suspension is done. Exhaust is still decent although a junkyard dual exit setup from a CXS would be cool.

What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2023]

Lacrosse got some front suspension work done yesterday. I took the car for inspection last week and they found the front right strut was rotting out. They still stickered it for me, but it definitely needed addressed. The control arms were also really crusty and I wanted to replace them and the...

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

I will tomorrow. It's a dead man switch. I don't totally love it. I'm a lot closer to Vice Grip Garage than West Coast Customs so for inner wheel arch pinholes, it oughta work. In regards to the Putty, there's a similar product called Belzona which is used for similar metal loss situations in...

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

Managed to try out my new-to-me sandblaster today. Took a bit to get it tuned just right, but it works awesome. Really fast removal of paint and rust. My compressor struggles to keep up with it, which I expected, but it still ran it. It did force me to stop after a bit because the air was...

    Gray Man, Inc.

That thing would sell in 24 hours here at that price. You can't even find one that doesn't have a ton of rust, and if you do they want $10k+ for it. The ones for sale in the $5-6k range here are four different colors of Rustoleum, won't pass inspection, cats are cut off, and they need towed...

I really like this project. I'm entirely unfamiliar with the minitruck world. I'd have never thought to put Corvette wheels on it but they look great. Refresh my memory, what motor and trans is in that truck?

No I won't. I swore myself off of GMT400s. They are good trucks, but I just can't shake the bad taste from the last one I owned. I still like to kick tires though.

Glad to hear the trike is gone. GMC is tempting. A/C work?

Sound advice I plan on adhering to. I've got plenty of scrap around to practice with.

    Core Support Black

I was going to suggest the same thing. I plan on using it on the firewall, core support, and inner fenders of my Skylark. Actually might use it for the dash and steering column too since the finish is more or less the same as the factory interior black. Single stage too, so it's super easy to apply.

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

I was just looking on the HF website Donovan. Looks like they've got a shrinker/stretcher set for $150. I like that idea a lot more than cutting reliefs in the lip. I'll probably wind up taking a ride to HF later this week to check them out in person.

Went & did some tire kicking

You gotta fill me in on the details of which forms to fill out. Not to hijack your thread but for those unaware, PA used to have really cool purple with white letters antique tags. Classic were white with purple. Then they went to these God-awful plates that resemble our regular-issue plates but...

Went & did some tire kicking

Is it possible to still get the purple plates? They looked so much better than the stupid current ones.

Gonna be able to make it to any cruise nights with it this season?

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

More trimming and tweaking today. Panel is now fitting really nice. Fitment is good enough to lap it as-is, I'm gonna try to butt it though. Had to cut the last 10" or so off. Might attempt to make it work on it's own or use the other panel for that area. Either way, I'm gonna need to add more...

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

There's a little bit of some unknown type of media in it, play sand maybe. I've tried glass bead, aluminum oxide and coal slag in my little siphon blaster. I've had good results with the fine coal slag, plus it's very cheap and supposedly inert so the dust isn't going to give you silicosis. The...

    Best Safety Glasses?

I picked up these ones from Home Depot yesterday. They are 3M brand. They weren't cheap, around $40 (still less than an ER trip). They fit well and the seal around my face fits tight. They don't fog up too bad and they are fairly comfortable. They aren't scratch resistant, so I'll have to be...

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

More small progress today. Finished grinding off the lip (with new safety glasses!) on the wheel opening. No major surprises. With the lip off I was able to roughly (and I mean roughly) mock the new panel in place. Fitment looks rough, and it is, but with some more trimming and a lot of...

    Best Safety Glasses?

Appreciate the suggestions. The Dewalt ones definitely look nice, the Uvex ones as well. I've been to the ER an embarrassing number of times to get metal and rust removed from my eyes and it would be great if I never had to do it again. Plus going to work with the terminator eye is always a fun...
