installing tach when there wasn't one.

Look at your underdash wiring behind your radio-you should find a white wire with a brown female spade terminal receiver-that is where the tach filter plugs in. I have a nice, complete 1985 SS tach/gauge cluster pod for $150 if you want the whole she-bang. They are getting pretty scarce so yes...

How many factory 4-speed 1979 El Caminos did GM make?

Okay, update: I found the build sheet and it is supposed to have a bench seat with an M20 code 4 speed manual transmission. So the dual power bucket seats and matching console appear to be taken from a 1978-80 Regal. I plan on putting a bench back in it soon.

How many factory 4-speed 1979 El Caminos did GM make?

This car originally had a 4.4 V8 and the VIN does designate it as having a manual transmission. The rarist part on the car imo is the dual power bucket seats-this is tjhe first I've ever seen.

How many factory 4-speed 1979 El Caminos did GM make?

I have one now and am in the process of deciding what to do with it. It got quite a few rare options but it has a TH400 in it right now. For options it's got dual power bucket seats, condsole, tilt, pw,pl, AM/FM/8-track, delay&pulse wiper and AC. It's yellow with tan interior. It has a GMC...

steering column and shift indicator ?'s

It'll be affected if the ignition switch and neutral safety switch is mounted on the steering column. I think all columns have the hole just outside the firewall for the linkage rod that extends down to the transmission-you need to score that piece from a donor car at the boneyard along with the frame...

Monte Carlo Trunk Torque Rods vs struts/shocks what years?

To my knowledge, 1980-82 G-bodies had the trunk shock option as well as the 1983-88 models but the earlier versions had two styles. It's true I've never seen them on a Monte before but I have an 81 Olds Cutlass and an 81 Regal and they both have them. The Olds shocks are smaller in length than...

steering column and shift indicator ?'s

You have either worn out bushings in your linkage as mentioned or the linkage rods themselves are bent. There is no cable from the floor shifter to th eindicator. There is only a thin, sometimes doubled-up string-like cable that attaches just under the column which moves the gear indicator by...

    turbo mante rear?

Turbo Montes were only in 1980 and 81. I have a 7.5 rear out of one in my '78 and it has held up very well. GM used 3 styles of carriers durign the smog years for the 7.5 and of those, the Turbo Montes had one of the better ones with cone type clutch packs vs. springs type packs. I've got a 1"...

    Passenger/Driver's Windows

If you replaced the window felts, you might have to adjust the felt sweeps in toward the car a bit. There are two-they are held onto the top of the door shell by 13mm bolts. It's basically just a metal brackets with felt around it to smoothly guide the window up during its travel. At the very...

    Delay Wipers install

I have a complete wiper system from an '87 SS Monte Carlo that I can sell you. I can include the motor, delay and all the related wiring up to the connector for the steering column for $100. I already sold the steering column itself but yours should work. It all worked on this SS prior to being...

    Best electric fan to

My guess is that the fanis never actually shutting off at freeway speeds because the temp. sensor still has the fan engaged via the relay for whatever reason, so at highe rspeeds, the fan is acting lik a wall-restricting the airflow. What you need is a variable (and no, nobody except our DC...

    Best electric fan to

I here ya. I like the installed look of the Intrepid fans quite a bit. I'm actually a distributor for DC Controls but I sell the same fans cheaper by themselves. We just happen to sell the same things. Personally, I just stick the largest single electric fan I can find with Mark VIII's leading...

    Best electric fan to

I actually enjoy good discussions on why or how something works. If I believe in it, I try to promote it. I don't try to stress anything unless I've already gone down every road. I think I've explained fairly well the reasons why the DC Controller is better than any other controller on the...

    Best electric fan to

I'd have to dis-agree on a couple areas. First, a stock type three or four core radiator is fine for a 180-hp 305 for example, but once I started driving my '78 every day with a 10.75:1 355 w/3.73 gears and 62cc heads, my stock cooling system would not keep temps below 200. It would creep up to...
