    1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

We are planning to sell our house to move in the same city, so it looks like my carb tuning will go on the backburner for now.

It fits, but the clearance (between the hood and the carburator bonet) is millimetric...

First time ever I will own a car having a clean hood underside. Ordered a few carburator parts (TPS, M/C solenoid, various tools) and will tackle a round of adjustment myself. There's a guy who does really precise videos on how to rebuild CCC quadrajets -

    1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

Since this is a CCC carburator, it should not have anything special - no special port for the PEVR, etc. The tuning must be turbo-specific of course, but the magic is in the ECM and the special MAP sensor that can read vacuum and boost. I may be wrong and missing something, however - and you are...

Maybe https://autoline.ca/ ? Their website shows an E4ME carb picture :)

The carburator re-builder said NO and was in a hurry to hang up when I mentioned my carburator is a E4ME Quadrajet... 🫠 He said he done it in the past, but... it feels the guy still has PTSD from it!

The verdict is - the car is not driveable, so the carburator will go for a full overhaul - lucky to know someone in the area who is knoweldgeable in these old carburators... this is a 40-year old carb after all. meanwhile, cleaned the underside of the hood (will "paint it black") and was vain...

bummers. today, the car does NOT idle properly after it ran supah-dupah-fine Sunday, two days ago. - open the throttle, runs better but rough. - put some starting fluid, throttle at idle position,it runs perfect - play with the choke, does not do any difference - disconnect the mixture...

so all the last "details" are more or less resolved... so the car will go hoodless in the driveway and do its 15 minutes @ 2300 rpm for the engine break-in.

Fuel pump replaced, very tight exhaust job in the works.... Created a heat shield under the turbo outlet to protect wiring, will have to do the same for the transmission oil lines and the ECU wiring near the firewall.

I had a small concern about a clicking noise - turns out, it's a normal cycle for the mixture control solenoid that lasts a good 20 seconds after setting the ignition and then stops. I guess it shows that the ECU works ok. This being said, the engine really revs at idle, 1500 rpm. Runs fine...

My brother-in-law has just finished his 4-year project, a 1970 Maverick with an inline six, the car looks, feels and drives line a new one...

so it looks like the standard hood will clear the carburator with the turbo bonet [ ... we will see once I am sober.. ; ].. next steps will be - get the car ready for a short drive, with the hood on.

so the engine has its coolant, running ok with the ECU & etc. But no final exhaust system.

...progress is not visible (yet). Every wire and sensor and vacuum hose will be there, just like the General (Motors) wanted it (or almost).

...so the trick was to disconnect the fuel line at the carb and crank the engine, until fuel burped out of the line. Some sort of air purging. Then, reconnect the fuel line and crank the engine, ran fine-ish for a good 15s. Shut it because no coolant in yet. That is the next step.

The car cranks and runs on starter fluid. It runs ok, no backfire, that's cool. But no fuel from the pump when I check at the carb. Needs to be investigated. I distinctly remember having checked that the OEM 87 GN camshaft I used for this engine had a fuel pump lobe. So maybe the pump is bad...

POS transmission mount was broken, so I replaced it, that will help lineup things!! The stud was spinning freely, a PITA.
