MW9 - 200-4R transmission. These Monte SS transmissions have desirable calibrations that work well with street/strip builds.

So it's still squealing and not charging? Belt tension and alignment OK? If it's still squealing, remove the new alternator belt temporarily and start the car. Still squealing? Then it's something else. Failing water pumps have been known to make noise.

I believe that's more complicated than the first Apollo rockets. :wink:

Oh, and not all G-bodies were spineless posers without performance... :twisted:

Too bad their effort to 'preserve' the showroom appearance resulted in a trashed window sticker. It's almost like someone has been rolling the window up and down on it. :?

First, get the car up on jackstands and disconnect the shift cable/linkage from the shift lever at the transmission. This should isolate the problem. Now, can the shifter move its full range? If so, the problem likely lies with the trans. if not, work your way back from the underside of the car...

For a daily driver, your first mods should actually be anti-theft measures. Thieves suck and they still like G-Bodies! Nice Cutlass. Welcome.

Good advice. FWIW, my issue was fuel delivery, or lack of it. I was able to get it back running by either dribbling gas down the carb or, when out and about, by spraying judicious amounts of starting fluid at it while cranking. This no-start/random stalling Russian roulette game got old fast...

Welcome. If you can fix that Monte, more power to you! Once very common, these G-bodies are becoming increasingly rarer as folks junk them or part them. Oh, and how about a pic of that two-tone Regal hiding behind the Monte? :D
