I adjusted the timing last night and what a change. Runs pretty good but at 3/4 to full throttle there is a loud bellowing sound coming from the carb. Like it's really sucking too much air or something. The car doesn't die or anything. But it really doesn't accelerate very well once I hear that...
O.K. fellas heres the deal. I checked the timing and with the vacuum taken off of the dist. It reads about 20 deg off. Instead of being 12 deg below TDC is't about 12 deg Above TDC.....
What do you think.....Also someone told me that some cars had two marks on the Balancer. I have not checked...
First of all thanks for all the replys. I did check the wires and the order and they are right. I am going to check the timing today and I will let you know how that gos
Last night I started thje car and let it warm up. After warming up I was checking for vacum leaks and while reving up the engine it chokes a little about 3/4 throttle and then backfires out of the carb and a flame. What causes that. This all comes back to my problem
About the vacuum advance...I took the vacuum line of off of the dist and the idle changed quite a bit. So I would assume that it is o.k.
But what I really want to do is check the timing. But I need to know which cylinder is number one
The 301 is a pontiac motor. and yes it is a pooch. The carb had been rebuilt according to the previous owner. it idles great and revs really well while it's out of gear. But when you are under any load you have to really ease into the throttle or it will choke and want to die. Anybody have...
1979 Grand Prix. 301
Want to check the timing. What deg should it be set at. Is it true that the dist. turns counter clockwise.
Also is the cylinder set up like a chevy. One bank 1-3-5-7 and the other 2-4-6-8
Thanks
Thanks for the replys. Where can I get seals?? Also the GP is green with white interior. It's in pretty good shape. Thinking about a 350 swap really soon.
Just got a 79 Grand Prix SJ Yesterday. I am very excited. I am going to ask the question everyone ask when they get a new car. Is there any literature or websites with more info on these cars. What about door and window weather stripping. Things like that for resto.
Thanks Guys
