Yes, you'll need the flat wrench, but you'll need to raise the seat to get the plastic nut caps off and then have enough room to get the nut off the stud, It helps as you remove the nut, you lift the seat to give more room to get the nut off. With the transmission piece out of the way, it gives you more access if you can get it out.
