I believe the options were as follows, correct me if I'm wrong:

231 cid (3.8L) Buick V6
260 cid (4.3L) Olds V8
305 cid (5.0L) Chevy V8

I think you have it right. My 78 came with the 305 chevy and I know others that had the 260. Did they also come with Olds 307s in 78? I had heard they put the 305's in because they could not produce enough 307s.

I missed an engine option. The Pontiac 301 cid (4.9L) was an option as well.

According to 442.com, the 307 Olds started production in 1980 as a successor to the Olds 260.

I have the 307 HO in my 1987 442, and I love the torque!!!

Um, I don't think the Pontiac 301 was ever available in a Cutlass.

Evar! :D

Sure you had Olds powered pontiacs, chevy powered everything, buick powered (just about) everythings, but only Pontiacs got Pontiac engines. At least I've never heard of such a thing.
