Good morning All,

I have a dumb question but, I need to know. I'm currently not running A/C on my 79 (V6 231 3.8L), and recently replaced my alternator. I'm not sure which pulley the belt goes on the inner or the outer? I researched the internet and YouTube but doesn't show me anything. I figured this would be the best place to find my answer.

Use a straight edge to make sure you are in the right grove. Everything should be parallel and perpendicular.

If using double pulley double belts ... Remember to ask for a matched set.

Can you post some pics ? I don't have your setup for reference.

Also you can check for a bypass pulley if available.

It is usually better to run your belt on the inner groove of the pulley due to the stress added when using the outer groove on the alternator bearings. BUT, in all circumstances the belt should be straight or parallel to the crank pulley and any other pulleys the belt has to ride on. Just my two cents...
