The fifth digit of the VIN is a "W", here's more info: http://www.301garage.com/Engine_Family.htm
You get the PHS from GM right?
Thanks for the info, going to check with the guy to see what he has. It looks like the '80 has no a/c and I want to remove that from mine.
Greg
Yes, it is a factory "W" code-4bbl. I guess what I really should have asked is if the appearance of the parts in question are the same between the two years?
Can anyone tell me if the bumpers and the lower chrome parts are the same between the two years and/or does it have more to do if the car is a base/LJ/SJ ? I ask as there is a '80 that is a ways away from me being parted out and it looks like the rear bumper is better than mine.
Thamks, Greg
Here are a couple of pics of my '79 LJ. I've had the car three years and actually tried to sell it last year but did not sell so I have decided to keep it.
It needs some body work and the vinyl top replaced but there is alot to start with plus is totally '70s with its color combo which is retro...
I want to change out the auto climate system in my '79 GP to a heater only.
Can I use the heater box and controls from any '78-'88 A/G body in my car?
Will I have to change the dash or can I just ignore most of the vents in the dash, or maybe I could hook some or all up to the new heater so...
I recently spent a bunch of time reseaching the 12" rotor upgrade for my GP and was leaning towards the B-body spindle install, but I had read stories about the bumpsteer issue as well as people that had that setup then upgraded to the LS1 brakes that 78MC-BBC suggested and found better braking...
This should tell you what you need to do for the forth gen. brake swap that Stoopud suggested: http://www.thirdgen.org/ls1reardisc
For interest sake here is info on the third gen swap:

Hi all, I found this: http://www.ws6transam.org/1LEbrake.html#1LEfront and shows parts and procedure you need to upgrade to LE1 brakes on a third gen F-body.
I am thinking on running 15" Snowflake wheels like shown here:

I have the same car here with the same colours, even has the wires but is not as nice a shape as yours.
I bought mine because a friend was selling it and I counldn't pass the deal up. I am thinking on doing a colour change but my wife says that she doesn't mind the green so we will see.
You...
Thought that I would change the oil on the GP today and while I was under it I noticed that the original TH200C had been replaced by a TH350.
I did not have the car jacked up but I could see the LH side of the trans but I did not see an electrical plug for the T/C clutch. It's supposed to be on...
Thanks guys, I will have to see what code I have on the diff. If it is too low geared I can always swap in the spare diff. I have that has 2.29's. That diff. came out of the '80 Cutlass wagon I parted that was built with a diesel/TH200C. By the time I was done with the car had moved up to a '69...
