BUILD THREAD Street/Strip Cutlass Build: Race it, break it, fix it, repeat.

Re: Budget Cutlass Build Thread, Making Progress. Looks good, I am surprised you didn't go with the LED oil and water gauge to match your voltmeter.

    My 81 El Camino Thread

Awesome, is the 3sp on the floor too? I have been told there was less than 2,000 of them made for that year. Also, if you plan on keeping the V6 and rebuilding, it can be very expensive. This V6 has the comp cams 252H camshaft in it, ported and polished heads, Flat top pistons, edelbrock 2111...

    CCC elimination and Intake Swap

Here is a more clearer picture of the motor. Here is the dash layout with the manual choke. I did have to place stainless steel washers behind the choke cables to reinforce the plastic housing.

:bump: I added a few pics of some upgrades I've done.

    CCC elimination and Intake Swap

I did this upgrade back in June and I have driven it quite a bit. My original plans called for the Holley 390cfm but I just didn't have the extra cash to cough up for the carb, so I went with the friends 600cfm he sold me for $125 and only 3 months old. With the internal upgrades to the motor it...

    CCC elimination and Intake Swap

Here is a pic of my upgrade on the Elcamino. The photo isn't the best since it is on a cell phone I will try with a digital camera for a better quality picture.

    CCC elimination and Intake Swap

That will be no problem, I'll try and get one this weekend. I was completely baffled by it also and so was another buddy that was there with me helping set the timing. I am only assuming it is the plug for the CCC hookup as both my computer wiring harness and the distributor had the same style...

    CCC elimination and Intake Swap

In 1981 the first year of the CCC carb they still used the vacuum advance distributor since the computer only controlled the idle air mixture on the Carb. In 1982 they went to the computer controlled timing and eliminated the vacuum advance. My Distributor does have a wire coming out of the...

    Car Runs Great Then Dies?

I would suggest testing the continuity of your power wire to your distributor. You may have a faulty wire that is causing a power loss to your module. Also, if you have any relays for your ignition you may want to check those as they usually give symptoms similar to what you described.

    CCC elimination and Intake Swap

I have just completed my elimination of the Computer Controlled Carb and Intake on my 3.8L 229C.I. V6 in a 1981 El Camino. The parts I used were the following: Edelbrock 2111 aluminum intake--says will fit 1985 and up but actually fits 229 V6 just fine. Holley 1850S 600 CFM 4 Barrel carb with...

    3800 series 2 motor mounts

look for a set of mounts similar to the 2000's V6 camaro's and firebirds. They used the 3800 V6 and those mounts should be something similar to what your looking for.

    '87 GMC brainstorming

The best thing to do is start off with plenty of research, from what I remember in reading thru several hundreds of threads, there are plenty of factory upgraded components out there. I do believe the Grand Prixs had some really neat suspension bracing pieces and such along with upgraded sway...

    Will 4.3 S-10 headers work?

Did you ever get the headers and did they work? I have an 81 Elcamino with a 3.8L and the 4.3L headers will work for them, I just was not sure about the frame architecture to see if they will actually clear everything in the Elcamino.

    holley vs q-jet

Can I just kill them all and post Fuel injection all the way!.... FYI, I am putting a Holley 2300 Series 350 CFM 2BBL on my 81', I just purchased the Eldebrock 2111 Performer intake for the 229 V6 and will be getting rid of my CCC carb setup. I hate it! I plan on eventually upgrading...

    Help on 3.8 dizzy

Might be a little late on this but from my understanding if you replace the carb on an 82 chevy that has the computer, unless it is a vacuum advanced distributor (with the vacuum pod on the side pre-82) you will need to replace that as well. Then you should be able to just get rid of the...
