The Lang 971 thread chaser kit is a nice little kit to have if you want to restore or chase threads. As usual, thread chasers are one of those things that someone borrows, then mysteriously walks away from you because you haven't needed to use them often. Lately I've been needing to chase threads more and more so I decided to break down and buy a new set instead of continuing to use my regular tap/die bottoming taps and junk. Taps tend to cut into the threads more if you're not careful. And sometimes it may be necessary, but in most cases, I just want to clean up the threads on whatever I'm working on and not worry about cutting new threads.

The Lang 971 is 48 piece set, more than enough to cover most of the needs of a G-body. There's other kits out there, it's just that this one is still made in USA, and normally costs around $100 give or take in most places. They made the old Craftsman version I had until I didn't, so I feel pretty confident the newer and larger kit I'm getting should be just fine for what I need. It also comes with some thread files.

Something to consider, if you're leaning that way into getting something to clean up threads.

Had it for a few years. Works great.

Fleet Farm, y'say? Very interesting and not so far away, seem to remember one on 36 that had the Marvel Mystery Oil that I was looking for.

FYI, ARP also carries thread chasing taps. They are not cheap but I did manage to score a basic kit for doing SBC engines some time ago. I was also able to locate and acquire a special socket kit that accepts the taps and lets you use a standard 3/8ths drive ratchet to run them in and out, instead of having pickup a tap handle.
