WANTED: Steering column to fit 1987 Caballero A/T with cruise and tilt

Title says it all - looking for a column with cruise and tilt that doesn't have the dreaded tilt wobble. Prefer one with matching ignition key(s), but not necessary. I'm in Sacramento, CA. Thanks!
 
Why don't you just fix your existing one if it has the tilt wobble? Assuming you have tilt and cruise, etc. A WHOLE lot cheaper. And you can still do it in the car as well. Just takes a few "special" tools which you can probably rent and get your money back from Auto Zone or Advance Auto, or other big box stores.

 
Thanks, I've seen those tutorials - I'll resort to that if I have to, but since this is my daily driver I don't want to risk screwing something up and ending up without a car for a few days...swapping the column seems a LOT easier.

Maybe I'm not using it properly, but their "catalog" won't come up to show that they have hardly anything for GM in stock. So much for 3,000 + steering columns. But even the ones that do, they're wanting $575 thereabouts plus several hundred core charge (charged after 30 days if you don't send yours back). Shipping isn't included in that, but figure another $60-75 bucks, let alone what it costs to ship yours back.

Buy the parts, rebuild your own.
 
I followed Hutch's video and it's totally doable. The three things you'll need is the Torx socket for the pesky loose bolts and the steering wheel puller - visit Harbor Freight; plus the tilt pin puller from Amazon or the auto parts store. You can remove the lock ring with a 90-degree pick while pushing down on the locking wheel. I'd get a turn signal return cam and the horn bayonet - it's good to replace those while you're in there.

That's a good deal. If that doesn't work out I believe nycutlass is parting out a G in the classified section as well.
 
If buying a used tilt column, tread carefully. It can be all worn and torn up inside. Frankly don't understand the love for them prefer a regular straight simpler column any day.
 
Tilt wheel columns aren't much more than a straight column. Sure, less of an issue with the torx screws coming loose, but with some loctite, you only need to do it once. That's the only real fault I've found about tilt wheels.

I know it's not much, but I do remember the 1980s when these cars were new. And yes, I've driven them on long trips to see family, etc. Along with the 6-way power driver bucket, the tilt wheel made adjustments to the most comfortable driving position for those long drives.

Sure, wasn't needed, but when you get a package discount on the options and spending over 16K for a new G-body, it's a drop in the bucket for long-term happiness. Part of the savings package got sunk back into the $100 posi option anyway. 🙂
