Can anyone help me locate a set of block side mounts from a gbody Pontiac 301?
I am tryin to install a Pontiac 400 into my 1985 el camino..... any help I would greatly appreciated.
If ur in New York, new jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware... I will even drive to pick them up. Thanks

What year 400? about '71-'73 Pontiac changed the bolt pattern on the block for the mounts. during this time frame they did cast blocks with both patterns. The p/n's you need is 496858 for the right side & 498859 for the left side. Theses were used on '76-'81 A (LeMans, Grand Am), '78-'81 G (Grand Prix), '77-'81 B (Catalina, Bonneville). This is from my '76-'81 Pontiac parts catalog. Related Buicks powered by a Pontiac should cross too.

You want a G-body that came with the Pontiac 301 engine. 1978-81 were the years the 301 was available in a G-body. Almost every Pontiac 400 will bolt up to those side mounts. Those that won't can use the adapter brackets to work. The second gen Firebird 301 mounts will accept the 400, but they place the engine a bit higher up than you would like. I put a 1970 Pontiac 400 in my 1981 Malibu wagon with the Firebird mounts at first. It caused the fan to hit the shroud. A smaller fan may have worked but I like the huge 7 blade Pontiac clutch fans. The hood closed OK. Later I found the right 301 G-body mounts and all was well. They do turn up on Fleabay now and then.

I had a 1976 Lemans with the Pontiac 350. The mounts did not work in a G-body. The engine sat way too high. I don't now about the B body mounts.

I had a Pontiac 265 V8 (120 Hp LOL) Originally in my 1980 Grand Prix that was made in Canada GM Plant.
When I got it from the little old Lady that traded it in at a Ford Dealership like 20+ Years ago it had a 301 in it.
Same motor mounts. The 301 where in the Bonneville's to with 265's in the late 70's early 80's too also the Parisienne, Firebirds et...
I have a 71 400 from a Catalina in my 1980 gp and used the Pontiac 265 motor mounts. I dont have hood issues and run Electric fans.
PS : on the Chart above the 4.3s is the Infamous Pontiac 265 small block LOL

Ok... im going to be that elephant in the room and ask why go with a pontiac 400 instead a SBC in the el camino.
