Is this insulation mounted between the back of the rear seat and the trunk useful? It feels like its been soaked in liquid and is old / crunch and has holes in it - I want to tear it down. Is there something else I can put in it's place?

If you go without you'll absolutely hate it because it's MUCH louder. The insulation helps a lot for the winter/ cold mornings too. You really, really want to have something there.

You may also want to think about installing a rear seat brace while everything is apart.
