Going to add speakers eventually on one of the two mentioned locations.

Pros and cons of each?

It is quite a bit easier to buy the kick panels and speakers to fit than to put them in the doors. I have heard the driver’s kick panel interferes with the emergency brake pedal. If you have the loot to spend, there is the lower door panel option with provisions already made for a speaker (or two). I wasn’t too fond of the look on either so I put them into the original door panel. I feel like that is where they should be. Putting them in the original door panel does involve a bit of work since you will need to cut the panel AND the door. With the first two options you can use a
5 1/4” speaker. The option I chose would not allow for that size. I used a 4x6” (which I already had and planned to use anyway). The 4x6 speaker works well as long as you use a quality speaker.

I went with kick panel speakers. They look good but if I had to do it again, I'd go with door panel speakers. The driver side speaker cuts into your foot room and completely blocks the dead pedal. I just bent the e-brake using a big pry bar but it puts it almost where a clutch pedal would be.

I like the kick panel speakers. Cheaper, easy to install, they sound amazing (mine are amplified), and at 6'7" with long legs, I didn't feel like they interfered too much. The e-brake pedal can be an issue though. Also, the wiring was super easy.

I thought I was going to go with the door speakers so I bought the lower duel speaker door panel and then didn’t like that so I got the single lower door panel and guess what didn’t like that look either, now I have the kick panels that house the speakers and the tweeters hopefully it all goes together good. The guy at the sound system store said every time you close the door the speakers are jarring and that’s not good for them.

On both my Monte and my Regal I made the upper door panels to accommodate a 6.5" speaker, IMO it is the best location, up high, unobstructed and out of the way.

My Monte has component speakers so there is a tweeter where the 3.5" upper dash speakers would be.

Thats the best way to do it... UP HIGH like 565bbchevy's way, its a much cleaner look and keeps it safe, why have speakers down below that will get kicked, dirtyed or wet or completely destroyed over time.

The last owner or the previous owner before him removed the originaly carpeted lower section at the bottom of the door and put in color matched ABS plastic replacement lower panel that has a molded speaker hole to mount one in. I d@mn near kick those speakers to death just about everytime i get of out my malibu, i'll be happy with just the two front dash speakers along with the two in the rear deck with a stock looking radio. I removed the single DIN aftermarket radio long ago that was also installed, it had issues, i dont care to have a stereo sytem in my malibu anyways, one day, i'll replace the both lower door panels with original type.

It's probably just me but speakers should be heard not seen IMO. I have my Boston Acustics mounted under the front bucket seats. None of the above blend into the surface they are mounted on at all. Haven't seen OEM speakers that stick out like sore thumbs, the grills are an integral part of the trim After markets just look cheap JC Whitney stuff to me. I had a picture of an interior back side panel that the person used a fine metal mesh insert painted in the trim color and from the door it looked like it was like that from the factory. Gotta find that picture! OK, Ya'll now let me have it!!!
