I have the whole rotating assembly from a gen4 in a gen3 block. Only difference between the two blocks is a head bolt length change that I could see. I was nervous about just swapping the rods and pistons to the gen3 crank and not balancing it so I went the safer route.
The 4.8 is the proverbial ace up your sleeve. It has the fat cylinder walls and the best rod angle. It's a big cam and worked heads boost wh*re. I'm of the opinion that they can take the most abuse of all the LS engine family. 5.3 through 6.2 all share the same crank stroke. 4.8 and LS7 are the...
Don't think I've ever seen a big con rod with a pressed pin. I've had a couple 04 engines that have big rods. One 5.3 and a 6.0 in the garage currently. Big valley pan bolt heads (13mm) plus big exhaust manifold bolt heads has been the easy way to find them for me.
I can't get 14 degrees of timing on top of my 14ish pounds of boost on 91 octane fuel, It knocks hard. I have two bent gen3 rods and a broken piston for my feeble attempts. 8-10 degrees is all I dare with the swill we get passed off as fuel around here.
'78 Elco. I was 17, Parents took out a loan for 3k and I paid all the payments. 305 they had just rebuilt the top end and put an Edelbrock performer intake manifold with a Holley carb. The TH350 was fresh too. I put 100k miles on it over the next 5 years, also put 3 more engines in it. I still...
Solitude. You could go for weeks without seeing anyone in southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon. Huge expanses of open desert that are beautiful but also very dangerous.
Previous ride in the Placerville area you mentioned Pirate peak. You mean Pilot peak? It's in that general area, aka Mores Creek Summit. Lots of great trail riding in that area. Way more of it yet if you go north or east of that summit. That GMC is a nice looking pickup!
I have 91 octane fuel here and have found that I can run it hard at 14lbs of boost and 12* timing for several tanks before I get a bad load of gas and blow up ring lands/bend con rods. I have it running at 9* now and it's been ok for a good while now. E85 is so much more forgiving!!
