Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

I've been farting with SBCs for over 30 years and have a bunch of extra parts laying around. That's nice to know about the Olds motors though, I was wondering about that.

Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

Lol! My daily driver right now is a 77 Suburban with a 454. I get 9 mpg on the highway. I don't bother to check gas mileage in Pumkinator. The closet place to race is 120 miles away, since this 307 is no tire shredder at least I can get decent mileage on the drive to autocross. Any basic stuff...

Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

I really appreciate you writing all that. That really puts it into perspective, right? It's got just barely over 75,000 original miles so I think I'm going to do just the basic tune up stuff (assuming it hasn't already been done recently) and call it good. My son works in a local hot rod shop...

Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

If I didn't already have the 350 Chevy I might have done that. I got the low mileage Vortec crate engine pretty cheap from a guy that was clearing out his garage. I then traded a friend some rendering work for a ZZ4 cam and Edelbrock RPM intake so it's an easy dependable 300 hp engine. I like to...

Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

Thanks for your insight. I've got an old G-tech so I plan to play around with things to see what each little tweak will do to it. Maybe I'll break into that hard to achieve 16 second 0-60 club. 😜

Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

Thanks for the reply. Looks like you're an Olds engine guy, another question for you /anyone else- any thoughts/ tricks to wake up the stock engine a little aside from what I'm already doing? I have a Chevy Vortec 350 crate engine that will eventually go in there so I'm not so inclined to go...

Spark Plugs for basic tune up? / Waking up a 307

Hey all I want to do a tune up on Grandpa, my 84 Cutlass more door. This is the first non Chevy engine I've owned, and for the cheapie tune up I've always used Delco R45TS plugs in SBCs. Any suggestions for the 307 Oldsmobubble? It's all stock, aside from removing the cat, adding a high flow...

    CUTLASS Mediocre Build Thread

That's just about right where I want it. I was thinking I did 1/2 coil on my last pair but I couldn't remember and your post got me second guessing. Lol, I loved your disclaimer. Thanks a bunch for the info. Keep up the good work!

    CUTLASS Mediocre Build Thread

Love the early Cutlass'! 100% improvement in the look of the car, looks great at this point. I like what you did with the wheel emblems, bravo! You mentioned the springs, were you saying you cut 1 1/2 coils off them? I bought some 5660s for my "Grandpa" Cutlass and I can't remember how much to...

    Tach reading goofy??

Thanks for the reply fellas. My son also has the rally pack in his Cutlass wagon and it used to jump around, so we figured it was the filter. The car was in an accident and we haven't got around to rebuilding it yet so we never did check the filter. The 4 door doesn't seem to be erratic at all...

    79 Cutlass Wagon G-machine build

Oh. Well, the speedo stops at 85 so... lol. Man that was a long time ago, if I remember correctly I took it to 6000 in 2nd gear. Supposedly that cam is good to "6500" so I revved it a little higher than I normally would just see the power curve, but as I had anticiapated it didn't make any more...

    Tach reading goofy??

Hey all, not sure if this is electrical or interior forum section, but I need help regardless. The tach in "Grandpa", my new to me 84 Cutlass is reading what seems to be 800-1000 rpms too high. The car is all original, very much virgin and untouched, so I'm at a loss for what would cause that...

    79 Cutlass Wagon G-machine build

At 4500 ft altitude that set up ran 15.70s @ 87 mph. Several years later I added 1.6 rockers, ported the factory smog heads a little and swapped to a different and better tuned 600 cfm carb. I also moved to 3000 ft altitude and went back to the track where it ran consistent 14.60's @ 100.XX ...

I think maybe when I started this thread back in 2011 there wasn't such thing as a build section. ;)

Well look what followed me home...

Very cool ride. I picked up an 86 about a year ago for a future build for my daughter to autocross. I also picked up an 84 Cutlass more door to use as a parts car, accept for a banged up front clip it's in way better shape. Still I like the ugly Betty, bad-A Grandma potential character of the...

    Tire spin vs. mph

No tire spin. This was on 275-50-15 drag radials, plus the motor really started to pull hard at 2800 but it was a near stock 1800 stall converter so the launch was fairly soft. I wish I had kept the time slips to compare 60' times. I suspect flywheel peak torque was maybe 400 ft lbs and peak hp...
