That's the thing....I don't remember it having any saddles at all....but I pulled the car apart around 8-9 months ago and my memory is little hazy. From the factory, were there just 2 saddles below the radiator ...... or 2 above also?
How is everyone mounting their radiator when using the turbobuick/307 top plate? Mine is currently loosely mounted between the core support and top plate. But something doesn't seem right....there is quite a bit of room for movement. I see summit sells universal radiator insulators that would...
I also have 3 kids around the same age. It is not uncommon for me to be wrenching out in the garage from 10-midnight....or early on a Sat or Sun morning. You'd be surprised how much an hour here and there can add up.
We live in a golden age of information....even an obscure car like an 84-85...
The issue is that the #1 body mount point on the frame is too low.....but that got me to thinking...... the car is currently on jack stands placed under the fire wall (pulled the tires off for more clearance when putting the front clip back on) ......maybe the weight of the engine has pulled the...
I gave it a good inspection prior to the swap, I didn't see any evidence of it ever being in an accident. Also.....the front clip on the grand prix sat good and square on the frame (I bought a complete car as a donor). You would think if the frame was bent, the door gaps would be off or the...
I swapped an 86 grand prix frame under my 86 442. The area of the frame at the #1 body mounts (core support) of the grand prix seems too low. If I try to place a stock body mount on that location.....Its not even close.....there is an uneven door gap to the point where the doors won't even...
I'm sure it will physically fit (seen a 6bt powered first gen monte and a few other gm cars over the years) but the weight of the engine would turn your g body into a nose heavy pig. A Cummins 4bt would be a better choice.
At least in my area, a complete 5.3 goes for $350-600 on Craigslist. A complete rough donor truck can be bought for $1k-$1500...... but other than being able to hear the engine run, it's not worth the hassle IMO.
I wouldn't worry about the originality of a hot air car.......they really aren't all that desireable. Going to the 86-87 intercooler setup or turbo ls swap would only increase its value. Actually, the 84-85 cars make perfect ls swap candidates (FI tank, sender and lines.....8.5 rear.....etc.)
I've pulled a few of these over the years. Late 80s to 90s Cherokees also have the correct shaft. I just look for the stamped steel ends on this era jeep when I go to the yard.
A couple of additional tips:
At least in northern salvage yards, the shafts rarely compress while in the...
They were fast for their time and responded very well to modifications (a few hundred $ would take a stock low 14 second car into the mid 12s). These cars had an incredible amount of potential relative to other cars available in the mid 80's.
