Finally got around to installing the 12.7:1 Grand Cherokee steering box. All I can say is WOW, what a difference. Feels like a whole new car. Also, I'd forgotten how nice it is working in a garage. Beats the hell out of working on cars outdoors.
I have two grandsons Adam ,14 (far left) and Aiden 4 (little guy) plus i've picked up four more grandchildren recently I haven't met them yet and can't remember they're names. I know i;m horrible right? o_O I'll be going to NC in June to meet them all.
So after 33 years of service, I've decided it's time to replace the steering box. Bought a rebuilt 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee 12.7:1 unit to swap in. First project in the new garage.
The first one was a stock replacement. But yeah, if this one craps out then i'm done with Hughes. Also, bustin parts is an excuse to upgrade.
The one i just replaced was a standard Hughes 2000 BPO. The new one has the heavy duty sprag. On the two converters I broke both times it was the sprag that went. Hopefully this one will hold up, It was about $100 more. I got about ywo years out of the last one.
So I've broken a second torque converter. I think its the broken sprag in the picture. It was a Hughes 2000 stall BPO, Replaced it with the heavy duty sprag version. We'll see how it holds up.
Here ya go black or stainless depending on your bezels

STAINLESS...
I'll jump on the bandwagon here. I have two younger brothers. The middle one is a hard working father of four. I don't hear from him much but I know he puts in 80 hour weeks. The youngest is another story. Mom ALWAYS spoiled him. A couple years ago, he left his girlfriend of 20 years for another...
