    dyno time,lets hear the guesses.

Glad you didn’t take offense to my comment. My experience (limited) with 500hp ‘s is you need more head and cam, but an 850 carb doesn’t hurt. Regardless of my opinion, that’s worth nothing truly, is I’m sure you’re in the 425-475 range. And anything over 350-400 is a screamer. No one can...

    dyno time,lets hear the guesses.

I didn’t notice the other pages of the thread. But respectfully to melloelky , I dont buy those numbers because of the carb. Unless the carb has been worked over to flow more. 650 or 670 cfm isn’t going to give up those numbers IMHO.

    dyno time,lets hear the guesses.

I agree with it needs a more carb. But I’ll say 428hp/438 torque. A 750/780 carb would add 30hp. How hard did you lean on the timing and AFR?

    In Tank Fuel Pump

We ran a Vega fuel pump with a carb’d 327 with no return. It worked but wouldn’t make it a fuel 1/4 mile before the bowls were empty. But worked great for street use and 8-9 seconds at WOT - 300whp and 380 wheel torque. It made only about 4.5-5.5psinif fuel pressure, but that’s plenty for lost...

    4L80 questions

Thanks for clearing that up. I’d never heard of a non electronic 80. But what ‘I’ve heard’ doesn’t mean much lol. Depending on who you listen to, the early 90’s are better cores (stronger) than newer ones. I’m defining older as cooler Line ports in the front next to each other and having a 17...

    4L80 questions

A full manual valve body with no TPS input for EPC solenoid is not going to be friendly to street drive. But if the line pressure is being controlled via the throttle pedal, and the rest of the trans is mostly stock, then a manual valve body is not awful to use if you have a decent shifter. And...

    Great stuff! Congrats.

I’ve never been able to get them with out either a bearing separator or a torch. They suck to remove.

New or old. I’ve always set the Carrier preload up the same. Used gears I try to give a couple of extra thousands on the backlash.

I’ve heard and read .008-.010 preload on the carrier bearings and I’ve never done that. Also, I’ve never damaged a gear or bearing at .004-.005”. But I should mention that I don’t have 100,000 miles on anything I’ve put together either. If it works for you, then you ought to stick with what...

overflow tank with 5.3 swap - how to route to radiator and steam port?

The purpose of the steam ports is to remove air/steam from the highest point of the motor. The purpose of a coolant pressure tank is to allow air to be removed from the cooling system, i.e. heater core(s), etc. and for easy filling of the coolant system without having to ‘burp’ the system...

Used gears should have pinion rotational torque of 25-35 in/lbs. without the seal installed. When pre-Loading the carrier bearings I always set it up two zero end play, then add .004-.006” more carrier shim for the preload. Be sure your bearings and races are lubed and they are in good...

On the Cheap chasing an 8.50

As always - took longer than I thought it would lol. The powder coating turned great - as it should. Getting the damn enduro bumper reinstalled and aligned correctly was an *ss ache to say the least. Onto cam swapping and removing the converter to send out. Cutting the hole in a very good...

overflow tank with 5.3 swap - how to route to radiator and steam port?

Here’s a couple of pics of how I have setup all of the swaps that I have done.

overflow tank with 5.3 swap - how to route to radiator and steam port?

Much easier solution is to drill and a tap an 1/8 npt fitting into the top of the water pump. Run your factory coolant reservoir to the nipple on the radiator. The only issue you will encounter by doing this is bleeding the air out of the system which if and when you evacuate the cooling system...

    Diff ID

If it’s an Eaton style, then it’s rebuildable - meaning if the clutches and steels are worn out, then they can replaced. If it’s an Auburn (brand), then I believe they are non rebuildable when the clutches are worn out. If the question is how do you know when it’s worn out? The easiest way to...

On the Cheap chasing an 8.50

Been plugging away. 1st item on the agenda was dropping the trans pan to see what kind of surprises were in there for me. If it was ugly, then that means a trans freshening will be required which implies $$$$. Fortunately, the transmission gods were watching over me and the pan contained nothing...

How would you layout this LM7 5.3 setup?

Yes, but not when using a truck alternator and power steering pump bracket. If you're using the big bracket, then I don't understand why you would use a factory pump that includes the reservoir.

    BUICK 1964 Skylark Coupe Project

I haven’t commented much, but been following your progress Joe. Keep it up. The labor of love looks to be paying off. I really liked your comment about building a car to drive vs. a show car.
