I took a cellphone pic of computer screen to show a few co-workers & it got enough laughs I figured I'd post it here.
On pro-touring .com in multimedia section, TC from bmr suspension has an almost daily random transportation thread. Every so often there is something there that really gets my...
Starting to look like something. Now I can finish the rear upper quarter corner. Cover weighed in at 55 1/2 lbs for now. Was I think 78 lbs with the 59' chevy fin styling it had. Way less than a Gaylord cover.
I've been asked before if I own enough clamps. What the hell is that supposed to mean? A fabricator always needs more clamps.
Ok, I did have enough, plus some..
EDIT;; glue used was panel bonding adhesive. I used Smart #263 from Finishmaster store, which is same as 3-m 8115.
Made another pair of side braces for the bedcover from a lightweight aluminum extrusion . Did a row of punched & flaired holes to match existing work. Probably will take a few hours of adjusting , fitting, & stretching metal on bedcover skin before attaching.
Spent a few hours after work Thursday & Friday cutting bedcover side supports from some extruded aluminum parts, marked out to bend an angle at the top to the new swoopy shaped quarter panel profile. Then marked out , drilled & chamfered 140 holes in them. After all that found out this...
I have it recorded. It is an LT4. As typical for TV, not much detail shown, and in this case not completed at least on that episode. On an LT4 swap , all the little details would take far more time than the bulk of the mechanical swap.
$6,900 , ouch. I pitty people that can't fabricate. In 2002', I put in a 33, 000 mile ls1/t56 including auto meter gauges & all other stuff to hook it up complete for less than that, though you do need to count in inflation. I actually did my current pedal swap in the early/ mid 90's when doing...
Got a little metal trimmed & started welding in spoiler underside. Got a pretty flat weld this time with extra cleaning before welding. Had some leftover punched & flared metal strips from when I made this cover approx. 12 years ago that I used on the outsides to close back in . Guess you could...
Making covers for underside of spoiler/bedcover. Thinking about using thicker aluminum with multiple sized drilled & flared holes like the small part on the right for new side bracing for the old cover..
Learned how to weld aluminum making this cover by the way.
They do pop up for sale used from time to time. I got my old pair in storage after making a steel set. Got a sheet metal shop to do some of the long lineal bending for me on my material & patterns & finished fitting & capping myself.
Welded spoiler to cover tonight after more tweaking, prep , & bracing. weld not pretty but will be ground & filled anyways. Hard to get old aluminum clean enough. Used wet rags to stop excess heat travel to paint. Started on underside of spoiler. Need to finish fabbing underplates & weld in ...
Did my first tig weld bead in about 3 years now on aluminum . Ain't perty, but it's stuck together . I think biggest thing was aluminum needed to all be cleaner, especially in the lap joint I made for ease of fabrication. Some spots are wide where I filled screw holes.. But it'll sand down fine...
Refined my passenger side some more & got the drivers side upper surface decently shaped . In the first pic from this morning , the metal at the center of the 3rd brake light was curling upwards and the portion over the inner brake light wasn't covering bumper. Moved whole assembly backwards &...
FIRST PIC OF THE YEAR.
Started shaping my rear spoiler last night from aluminum. Wife actually gave me permission to be banging & hammering till midnight under the noise of firecrackers. Got a little initial rough shape in half of it before quitting for new years.
