Throttle valve cable controls line pressure. if it was off it would slip every gear. not a weak shift in one. shift feel is controlled by the valve body springs.

have you but an update kit in the valve body? and the bigger boost valve? 700r4s are designed not to shift into 4th vary good at WOT until you do some valve body work.

Re: Header issues A lot of header manufactures say you have to run a cable shifter when using long tubes. i think on manuals you have to use shorties. idk if you can fit mid length or not

there are a ton of old 700r4s out there. easier to come across. Came in cars, trucks, and vans so they are every were.

get the cable housing the bolts to the transmission out of they yard. get the correct gears for your set up and youll be good. i havbe a 700r4 and did the same thing. look for older trucks 2wd. these a ton of them out there with 700r4s
