If the deals good, and the cars not gonna be a daily driver then dont hesitate. Im looking for a cheap one myself for the 84 Delta 88. The only thing is your gonna need a th400 cause the 200 wont hold a week even to a stock 455
Going to buy a '84 Olds Delta 88. It has the carbed 5.0, but i wasnt sure if it has the th350 or the th200, and the owner isnt sure. Can anybody help me please, Thanks
assuming the mounts are the same, and im pretty sure that they are, it would be alot simpler to just drop in the buick 350. The 2.78 rear should be fine, but you should think about upgrading, but not too high b/c you dont have overdrive w/ the th350.
Be VERY careful changing heads on the 400 sbc. Because the 400 was a small block with such a large bore, the 400 heads were specially drilled with steam holes to keep them cool. If you change heads and dont drill steam holes, you are garunteed to overheat.
If you went with the chevy 350, youd need an adapter to use that th350 b/c of dif't bolt patterns. If i were you Id sell/ trade it for a 200r4. Same bolt pattern, plus overdrive, and same length as the th350 so no drive shaft adjustments like the 700r4.
As for the buick swap, i believe a olds...
First off, is it a 350 olds block or sbc. Also, you might want to build that th350 with a shift kit. The 300 horse isnt a whole lot, but dep. on shape of trans, and your driving habits, it might not hold long. Or you can run a 200r4 which will bolt right in, and you can run a lockup switch and...
what you saying makes alot of sense. Ill probably rebuild the 200r4 and run a lockup switch. As for the fuel return ill probably run the line right alongside the original, but then how do i get it in the tank???
In my opinion, for your purposes, i would def. go with a properly built 200r4. Built right it will hold up just fine, and you have better gears than the 700, plus no adapt plate to deal with. Also even if your not on the highway all the time, when you do get on it will be soooo worth it. Its...
