BUILD THREAD '79 Monte Carlo body-off restoration NL

Spent some time with the Monte again today :) Getting ahead of stuff a bit but ok I want to repaint the car in the original color "Dark Blue Metallic", same as the car currently is. Luckily I have a paint mixing system at my store and the color is actually in the system. So I decided to fill an...

Thanks! With my dash it is basically only the top part that is damaged, I found a topcover on Rockauto for something like €80,- (excl shipping). Think I will order one and check it out. Thanks again.

Finally got the dash out today, was a bit of a struggle to do this carefully without further damaging the dash. I am not sure what to do with the dashboard, it has some craps and tears which I can't fix. Maybe I will cut out the top of the dash and replace it with fiberglass. Only have to...

Thanks. I am leaning towards keeping the 305 more and more. I have an edelbrock intake and will rebuild the carbs. Bigger headers are on the list as well. Will dive into other heads and cams too. Thanks

Spent a little time on the Monte again. Nothing too special. Removed some trim, the doorseal and one of the windows. Also found the first rust :( Could be worse though ;) I'll continue tomorrow morning, hopefully getting the dash out and continuing on the outside of the car

Thanks. I am still not sure what to do. It doesn't have to have musclecar performance, it's going to be a nice cruiser with enough power to get by in today's traffic.

Sounds good. I have been looking at these motors but there is quite a difference in HP throughout the years. Is this a corvette engine?

Thanks. As the car is out of order for a couple of years I'd rather invest time and money in a new engine in stead of a temporary option. But it would be a nice upgrade when I decide to keep the original engine.

Well, I hope to find a decent engine locally. If I see what they charge in shipping for a small part I don't even dare to ask what shipping an engine would cost :P

BUILD THREAD '79 Monte Carlo body-off restoration NL

There's not too much locally but I have been ordering from rockauto and that works like a charm. I have found a rebuild kit for under $30 and could do the overhauling myself so that would be an option . Well the plan is/was to reuse it. It should only have around 100k miles on it but it does...

That s an advise I read more often. Is it just a swap.of the engine or do you also need to switch carbs and ignition and stuff like that?

BUILD THREAD '79 Monte Carlo body-off restoration NL

No, just a safety check. The emissions are not inspected for older cars like these (fortunately :P)

A little question for the experts here. When I bought the car it came with an extra set of carbs: According to the seller it was purchased to give the car a bit more power. Does anyone know this model? Is it indeed better than the original? Would like to know if it is worth...

BUILD THREAD '79 Monte Carlo body-off restoration NL

I would like to share with you some of the history of the car (for those who care :P). Because I've decided to fully restore the car and keep it for a longtime (I was doubting about this for a while) I like to dig into the history of the car. The car was imported into the Netherlands from...
