I never did have any issues with too much water entering.Because mine was more like the Z-28 and Chevelles set up ,And had an additional intake entrance,

I have had more luck with Tilton mini starters. I have a 1981 El Camino SS with a 290 HP 350 ,With FlowTech "shorty" headers .I have had it for years with no issues.
GlasTek hoods seem to have some extra material to fit personally to your car.I have one on my 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro .And it fit nicely .I would get the hood springs from them as well.
Chevrolet at one time used to "pin" their studs before they went to screw in studs.Because they would pull out and or break. I believe this may of happened during Trans Am racing. Just how old are your cylinder heads .And are they screw in and or pinned in.?And if they are pinned in I would...
I have a Glastek 6" cowl hood on my Camaro.Of which I am happy with .But I plain on down the road on going with 2" steel hood for my 1981 El Camino SS.
Just remember that its a street car. Thats one reason I prefer mufflers. Just one less reason for the cops to bother you,Then there is always the option of electric cut outs.
Check the local wrecking yards .Swap meets.People parting out cars. And some aftermarket companies such a Classic Industries might be able to point you in the right direction .If they don`t have them.
One of the problems is you don`t know what the original owner did and didn`t do right with the car, And now you have to correct their mistakes. Look like you have a good decent car to start with Just go through it and make it yours .Good luck to you.
