Double update cause I forgot to update on the door from last week. Decided to start on the rear floor panel. Still gotta run a strength bead in the middle panel, but got a lot done for today.
Picked up two 4’x8’ of 20 gauge steel. Some is for a hutch my pops wants me to build for his work box, but I’ll be using some for the wagon. Fabbed up a full lower skin and crimped the edges. A little more prep and it’ll be finished up.
Well got the rest of the door repairs done. Now I just need to fab up a quick lower sling patch and move on. I would like to start finishing up the cargo floor soon as well.
Havnt updated in a while, I’ve been busy and on vacation a little bit. Ordered a sheet metal brake and managed to start fabrication on the inner door repair sections. Also got the inner wheel well finished up, but have to figure out an outer wheel well to fit.
Alright so a little work on my day off. I started to repair the wheel well brace for the passenger side. Since the well was rotted, this shared the same fate as well. Front and middle section is done, but rear section still needs to be done too.
it’s not actually for the wagon, that’s why I am modifying it. It was just a gbody coupe rear wheel well. I think inner is cutlass and outter is Monte Carlo.
thanks, it’s a process. Really sucks they make almost no parts for the wagons, so most has to be fabricated. I look forward to seeing what you do to yours, these things all seem to rust in the same spots for some reason.
You can look at my build thread, I’m currently going through the process of fixing the same issue, all of what you would need to replace is not made new/ aftermarket for these cars in the back. Just a heads up
Got the drivers floor pan 80% done, just a little more welding and patching to go. Also test fitted the coupe inner wells and realized they were t going to fit as is. Found out they sit a little uneven and I had to cut a nice angled slice out. Did some light tig tacking to get the piece together...
that is absolutely true. It had some serious issues that looked like it came from a poor rust repair job on the pass. Inner tire well. As I pulled it apart I could see some random welded in pieces that were not factory, but also the rust was never treated too.
This was not planned to go this far...

Started fabricating the rear floor panel in 5 sections. It was the only way I can fit it into my bead roller. Still waiting for my shrinker/ stretcher to come in so that I can remove the warp in the panel too. After that, the panels will all get welded into one and installed.
Well got most of the inner/ outer wheel well out, that sucker was glued to the quarter. Hopefully the Monte wheel well fits okay with some fabrication. You can see the amount of rust that is going into the body mount behind wheel well too. So that’s also on the agenda once I pull the frame.
Well today I got a little further into the rust. Ripped the passenger inner tire well out and pulled up the rear floor section that will have to be fabricated. At this point I’m getting tired of seeing and drilling out spotwelds haha. In the last picture you can see the rust underneath, both...
that’s the goal honestly. I just havnt gotten that far yet, I only started this Thursday. I was thinking of building a rotisserie but might just settle for a stand like I did with my elcamino before.
Okay so this morning I removed the fuel tank to check the floor and the rear frame mounts. Looks like all 4 rear frame mounts are trash for the most part. Also found a little bit of rust in the rear gate/ hatch area that will require some work. I looked on the inside and it’s all still solid, so...
from what I’ve figured out is the wagon uses the same rearmost body mounts, but has mounts similar to the sedan/ coup on the second to last mount. So with elcamino ones you would have to cut the second to last mount tabs off and drill out the frame for thesecond to last mounts.
If any of that...
thanks, it’s a nice car in general. Very complete and has all the chrome still.
As for the frame, I got in touch with somebody who had rear horns cut off, or I’ll order brand new el camino ones and modify them.
