Just wondering do the 3rd Gen Monte Carlos have a ECU? Or if they do where?

I've never thought about it till tonight a friend asked if they did, all I could think of close to it is the control module under the Distributer cap. But not a Actual computer that did anything seriously to run the car.
Am I wrong?

Nope. IIRC 1981 was the first year for the CCC system.

IIRC There was a few in 80 for the California market, but those are not common. Seeing as yours is a 78 or 79 it would not have an ECM.

Very few of the California V-6 cars had the first of the C-4 computer control systems in 1979 as did the some of the 1980 305 V-8 and 231 V-6 cars. If your car had the C-4 system the computer would he in the kick panel under the dash in the passenger side foot well. Judging from your engine picture in another thread you have the 267 (4.4 Litre) V-8 with the 2bbl duel jet carb and 25 miles of vacuum hose under the hood. The 5th digit in the VIN should be a "J",
For 1979 standards it is a decent engine, I added a 4bbl Q Jet to the 267 in my blue 79 Monte Carlo to complement long tube headers and dual exhaust the previous owner installed.

kool thank yall!!

that is actually the plan for this one to do the 4bbl ,.headers. take it off the collector and run pretty much straight pipes with very little to make it quieter. my old one was straight off the collectors and nothing in the way to the tail lights. but im old now so i cant deal with the drone . so figure ill throw something under it to help a bit.

thanks on the computer info also.

Why not run the exhaust through some good, free flowing mufflers? Use headers w/3" collectors feeding 3" head pipes. Then utilize a 3" 'H' or 'X' crossover set-up. Feed from the crossover to 3" in/out free flowing mufflers to 2.5" tail pipes. Minimal (if any) back pressure. The big-block in my dually w/1.75" x 3" full length headers is set-up this way & is quiet w/zero drone. It's a longer length system vs a g-body so something slightly shorter will possibly have a slightly higher level of exhaust note but definitely wouldn't be obnoxious.
