IMO its not worth putting any money into the v6. Save your money for a V8 + trans swap. For now to give it more "pep" they could swap out the rear for something with a taller 3.42/3.73 gear from a Monte SS or simular. That will give it a little more power off the line and would be useful when the v8 comes into play so its money "well spent".

I told him to just put a V8 in it, but he told me he want to keep the orginal engine in there.

I say screw the v8 and do something different if he wants to keep the v6 in it. This might be a little over the top for what he wants but on Turbo Buicks I seen a guy put the top half of a Turbo Buick motor on a NA 3.8 and run a little lower boost due to the lack of a Turbo Crank.
