I PM'd DrRansom442 about it but maybe someone else out there knows:

My check engine light comes on and off and I was told at the shop that its the crank sensor. Does anyone know the location of the crank sensor.

and Is $190 a fair price to swap it out.

Thanks in advance.

I would find a new shop. The 1984 does not use a crank position sensor. It does not have a sequential fuel injection system. The only piece of data that the computer gets from the distributor is RPM.

Here's a trick. Ask the shop to point out the crank position sensor on your car. Then report them to the Better Business Bureau for fraud.

I like the idea of having them point it out. I suppose they could be talking about the pick-up coil in the distributor but it sounds a bit fishy.

Wow, and I thought it was a shop with a great REP. Guess I was wrong. Thank you all for your sound advice. I did find it a bit odd when I tried looking for the part every where and was coming up empty handed. They almost got me with the $190 but my "spidey sense" told me other wise.

Once again, Thanks.

You guys are the best!!!
