Hey all i have a 84' grand prix and my windshield wipers recently went out. In my current situation I was told that replacing the money in the column would result in me possibly spending more money than it would cost to just buy another column. Is this true?? Also what cars can I use columns from and would i be able to obtain cruise control(what would i need to do) if you can help please do thank you

It really depends on your level of expertise. There are a lot of gm columns that will fit your car. Rebuilding your column can be cheap as long as you know what you are doing and have the right tools. By getting a used column, you may be inheriting someone elses problems. (Bad ignition cyl, bad tilt, bad bearings, etc.) if the rest of your column is in good shape, I would find the most economical way to replace your wiper switch and be done with it. As far as cruise, you will need a cruise/wiper stalk. The worst part of this is fishing the wire down through the column.
Thats about as far as my limited knowlege goes on this subject. I have a mechanic friend who does all of my column work for a few beers, but I have watched, LOL!

Good luck!
