have a 1985 olds 442. have been getting a loss of acceleration power, and a dive in RPM's after the car (automatic) shifts into a gear .. it can happen in any gear, all gears, or no gears it is pretty random and does not matter more wether i drive in city or country. sometimes it is even in first gear when i take off from a stop. the process involves the engine making a deeper starving type noise (it isnt starving but it sounds like it) and the car makes small jolts around for 5+ seconds while it SLOWLY acelerates. then after 10 seconds normally its good to go. passing gear also causes this phenomena a majority of the time .....
hopefully that is understandable. i know the problem lies somewhere in the transmission, maybe you know more specific. thanks!

Try disconnecting the connector for the torque converter switch and see if the problem goes away.

Do you have a catalytic converter on the car?

Sometime a catalytic converter problem can be mistaken for a trans problem

Sudden loss of power, engine strugling etc

jsut got back from being away. how exactly will that help? i will try it though!

I am thinking the torque converter is locking up when it's not supposed too. Disconnecting the connector will take away the possibility of it locking. If it is the problem, the car will drive fine when disconnected.

It's free and does not take much time, so why not try?

also make sure the TV cable is properly adjusted and working.

2x. My TCC is sticky and does the same thing. Try the converter.
