I am looking to purchase a copy or original of the complete wiring for the 1985 cutlass 442. There seem to be a few different brands out on the market so i am looking for opinions. I need something like GM used in there dealerships, it shows every wire, what color it is, what it connects to , the name of the part it connects to, and so on. Some of you have seen my car pic's on other posts, it's a nice car but when i got it the engine was changed, most of the wiring under the hood was taped of and i want to remove the computer since it is not doing anything that i know of. Driving the car the TQ does not lock up so thats not even working. I will buy a stand alone for that. Can i just remove the computer [unplug it] and go? There are a few wires that connect to a relay? next to the overflow bottle and a relay under the dash along with some of the computer wires going to two connectors up under the dash.

I have very limited internet access for the next few days, so I don't have time to go into any detail at this time, but what you're looking for is the '1985 Oldsmobile Electrical Troubleshooting Manual'. It shows every wire/connector.... in COLOR!

If you have a non CCC carb/distributor right now, then yeah you can ditch the computer ( it ain't doing anything at that point anyway ). All of the CCC wiring goes under the AC module ( kinda hard to get to ) through a rubber grommet in the firewall. From inside the car, you can unplug those wires from that big double connector and the ECM, pop the grommet out and then pull the wires from under the hood through the hole. I then plugged the hole in the firewall with a spare grommet I had as I still have a couple wires I route outside the car through it.

PS There is a 2 prong connector on the CCC harness that plugs into the AC wiring harness under the hood. It should be obvious. Just unplug it. I will tell you how to wire the AC and cruise control ( very easy ) when you get to that stage.

Check out Factory Auto Manuals. You can get the actual service manuals that you need to fix your problem.

I bought one for my '87 442, and was able to fix my wiring issues. That year had the electrical section included. Other years I believe had two manuals, one for chassis, and the other for electrical. Definitely worth the money to get the right manuals...don't waste your money on a Hayne's manual. Spent $36 for mine, and was worth every penny. You'll need that to fix the problems right. The manual Double V is talking about is on there. i think it is the second manual that is included with the two-volume set.

Yes i do want to keep the A/C so it is important to not remove that control. Also there is a couple of small vacuum lines i need to figure out. One just connects to a relay next to the overflow bottle, not sure about the other two.

Yes, there's a relay that bolts to a small bracket on the AC module. This will be bypassed. All you need to do is splice the black w/ green tracer wire from the compressor to the black w/white tracer wire on that 4 prong connector near the firewall.

The thing bolted to the inner fenderwell by the overflow ( assuming we're talking about the same thing ) is the DPS sensor. Most just call it a MAP sensor. It has a hard plastic line and a 3 wire connector going to it. If you're not running on the computer, it's useless to you and can be removed.

I assume this is the MAP sensor, if so i can remove it. I did order the manual recommended here, i hope to see it next week.

Yeah that's the MAP sensor. Not running on the CCC system = ditch it.

Hi, Double v can you tell me how to wire the AC and cruise control when you ditch the computer? Thanks

Depends on year of the car and what engine. I have an 85 GM electrical service manual, so that's where I get my info. Not all years are the same though, so I can't guarentee what I tell you would be accurate. Some years ( the earlier ones I believe ) didn't have any of that stuff controlled by the computer at all.
