I just purchased an 85 Monte Carlo LS and have a system for my old car i would like to install. I am definitely going to need a more powerfull alternator and i was wondering what i need to get as far as case size and fitment also any suggestion on specific alternators would be great. I also am installing my old single din head unit and i dont know which dash kit to get. Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated. The engine is the 5.0l/305 Chevy.

I put a 100 amp alternator from summit racing on my car. it was fairly priced and is also 1 wire compatible. Depending on the size of your system you might want to run a power cap just to take some of the blow away from the alternator. And as far as kit for your single din radio try walmart they usually have a kit that would fit your vehicle. Thats what i did.

that should be the one for yours its a gm 10si style case and that looks like it has the plug on the side so you don't have a light on your dash all the time. Unless someone has done some crazy stuff under the hood of your car that should fit your application.
I would go look at yours and then click the 360 view of that one to see if it looks similar. I had to drill out the small hole bigger to fit the bolt threw on mine.

Thanks I like it🙂 Another thing you might want to consider is upgrading the main wire going to your battery from the alternator with a heavier gage to get a little cleaner path to the battery, I also upgraded the grounds coming off the battery. I used 4 gauge singer wire from a stereo shop It usually isn't too expensive if they let you buy it by the foot.

Yea i was planning on it i have about 18 ft. of 1/0 from my Grand Marquis that im selling, might as well put it to good use.

Im run 2 zmax 15inch subs a hifonics amp 3000 watts and a 3 farde cap on a 80 amp alt no problem and you should upgrade the alternator wireing and grounds and get a good amp wiring kit off ebay there cheaper . A little work for good sound
