What type of 4-speed automatic over-drive transmission was used behind the 305 engine in an 1986 El Camino?

How long do they usually last under normal/average driving conditions?

Depends how well it was kept.
I would say 100k+ if it wasn't beat.

I don't think they put 700r4 in them but idk.

I need to take a long trip with this car on some lonely roads & it has 130K on the clock. So far everything seems fine. The engine doesn't use any oil but the transmission leaks a little bit. I'm thinking of having the trans pan dropped & filter replaced. I think that's about all that can be done to service this trans.
