You will need to make sure the pinion shim under each inner pinion bearing is the same. each shim is to the housing not the gear set.
If you place the diff's on a bench next to each other you will need to see if the ring gears are at the same height. If so the diff's are the same. I can't remember what ratio they changed the height.
Just get a bearing/ shim kit it will save you headaches in the long run. Double check your pattern and backlash or all your efforts won't last too long.

First, congratulations on being able to string together a 199 word run-on sentence. That's no small feat.

You'll need to use the Camaro carrier with the 3.23 gears since it's a 3 series. Up to and including 3.08 is a 2 series. If you plan to upgrade to limited slip, now would be the time. No need to do the job twice. The Fbody limited slip carriers are easy to find in the $100 range on CL and ebay. You're right about needing 28 spline axles. Crazy87's suggestion regarding an install kit makes sense too. Might as well replace all the bearings.
The 3.23 ratio is a great match to a TH350. It'll have decent acceleration and still be comfortable on the freeway. You should enjoy the upgrade.
