This engine I got had this timing cover on it and I was trying to figure out how to properly seal it?

On my 406 I have a 3 piece cover and just used a light coat of "The Right Stuff" and haven't had a leak yet after 5000 miles. Hope this helps.

I think i used the gasket on the block side and then a thin layer of rtv on the other side.

Luckily I have a few random gaskets and I happen to have 2 timing cover gaskets. I do have a sheet of the nice rubber-fiber gasket material. I was thinking that maybe I could cut that stuff to use between the block "oil seal holder piece" and the actual cover itself :| Do you think that would be beneficial? Obviously, I would put a nice thin coat of the Right Stuff on each side of the gasket as well.

Well the stock gasket is the right size to go between the block and first piece(that's why I just use it there), but obviously the stock one wont cover the entire area of the first to second pieces, so you could cut one for that or go the rtv route.
