It might be off topic but besides buying a floor shifter has anyone mentioned the extra gear and existing shifter I mean like I suppose the 200r4 s were installed in ss monte Carlos seems like they all have floor shifters .Question comes to mind if there were column shifted g bodys with some similar parts so if your changing from a 350 th you might find or swop a different part that would be different for a column shifted indicators the letter part P R D 3 2 1 instead of p r d 2 1 ect comments ? I did find a part for a truck possibly feasible....

I can speak for the round gauge set up on the Monte Carlo/Malibu/El Camino in that there is a plate used to cover the standard 3 speed shift pattern at the base of the speedometer. I believe they also used a blank panel without the pointer in 1978-80 when a manual transmission was ordered. Below is the plate from an 86.
I swapped a 2004R into my Regal but found the colum shifter only shifts down to second gear, it only has 3 forward detents. So drive is really OD, 3rd is really drive, etc.
Thanks" good to know I suppose one could be printed on a bumper sticker paper / poly and made from a sized scan cut out with scissors and in an emergency ...the rest is peel and stick history .....except I have no printer. I'm not about to buy those little stick on letter slash number sets then someone remembers an airbrush artist' who happens to have stencils the same size as needed he can even make them larger for senoirs ...just for kicks any one remember the cars ? that had floor shifters but still had the column indicators same place ( automatics) ..,..had the linkage rod that worked the column shift tube i n reverse order ...ok...I'm getting outtah here..thank God it's Friday !... not...
My 700R4 operates the same way; no 1st/low because the column is a three speed. The cure, as noted above, is to just shift into drive and let the transmission think for itself; it usually gets it right, just have the TVS cable adjusted correctly.

I had a 700r4/ floor shifter in a truck with wonky linkage that resulted in the same scenario. I went the other way though: I kept 1st but ditched park and just used the e-brake. Kansas is flat, she wasn't rollin' anywhere.
