Ok just picked up a 200r4 trans came with a torque converter while looking it over I noticed the converter went on the input and meshed with the pump it seems somewhat deep into the bell houseing I would say an inch from the mounting surface not having done a lot of transitions...I thought someone here can could say where or not there is that much oposite space from. The engine mounting surface to the face of the flexplate maybe 7/8" or I can find out when I get it in place does this seem OK? Motor is old chevy 307 with small flexplate for streight bolt starter

Sounds right to me, they go in quite a bit. How many times did it "fall" into place? What I mean is that you'll feel it slip into different stages of being fully installed.

I had about 4 washers worth of space, I tightened the flexplate to the converter and it puked trans fluid on the floor, pulled the converter out too far. Use washers to take up most of the space.
