Yes, I know. Don't go there; this ain't my first SBC rodeo by a long shot. I have enough parts laying around for several 350s and 383s, but the 267 is a cherry 37k mile specimen, and it's for a turbocharged app, so the negatives will be eliminated with booooost. Except for the no-quench/pinging issue that pretty much defines the 267...
Are there any flat top pistons out there anywhere for a 3.5" SBC? Other than $8-900 custom pieces, of course. I'm convinced the 267 is so horrible because of the full round cup pistons with no quench, and even at the anemic 8.3:1 compression they are still ping monsters. A FT piston with decent quench would go a long way to making it a usable design.
Ford 221 pistons are the right bore & pin height, but no valve notches and the pin size would have to be opened up to .927", and I do not know if there would be pin boss/skirt-to-counterweight clearance issues. All that work to make them fit would get me a good ways into the price of custom pistons (and still are just cast stock replacement parts). Any other options?
