Will a pontiac 326 and the powerglide transmission that goes with fit into a 84 GP? I can get them both pretty cheap, they are out of a 66 Lemans.

i know the 326 will fit, i dont know what mounts make it fit or any of the particilars. we have an 84 that has a 67 326 in it, er well had it in it, torn down for tons of rust repair now. it was also backed by th400, but i dont know about usin a powerglide. i would assume if you used and one of the aftermarket crossmembers they sell it would work, but i dont if the pontiac motor alters where the trans would sit on the crossmember, cause i think most of the crossmembers are based off of where the factory engines sit. dont know if any of that really makes a difference though, i just know that yes 326 will fit, and i gotta say that ours ran real smooth and seemed to have quite a bit of pep to it, plus it was different. if i get up to my parents house where we are doing the car ill look at the mounts and all that good stuff.

Be aware that the two speed trans is not a Powerglide. It's a Super Turbine 300. It has nothing in common with the Powerglide except the gear ratios.

Yes, if it is a dual pattern trans. A 2004r?

yeah my brother dissassembled everything that was left on the front chunk of frame so i cant really help you on how the mounts are set up, but id guess the are set up the same as any other pontic engine swapped gp. thats what we are planning on backing our 326 with, a 200r4, cause the th400 seems like alittle to much with no benifits for what it is. good luck on your swap.

I talked to this guy and he swears it is a true powerglide transmission. How can you tell the difference between a powerglide and the 300 transmission?

It is a two speed trans, but not a powerglide.

Technically, it is a tempest-torque, a super turbine 300 variant, but without the variable pitch torque converter. It has nothing in common with a powerglide. The powerglide was available with a dual bolt pattern. I had one in my 68 Buick special with a straight six chevy engine factory. It was a powerglide and not an ST300.

The pan is different. If you get a powerglide trans pan gasket and compare it to yours then you will know.

Just sell it after you find out what it is. You need a 2004R trans anyway.
