Hello everyone , I plan on buying a turnkey motor for my 1979 Monte Carlo. Being new to this scene can some of you guys recommend any reputable shops in ontario(GTA) that would do the install for me.

Thanks

I've spoken to active engines just trying see what other options are around in my area

They really know their stuff.Back in the 80's they built an old school 350 LT-1 for my Uncle Fred's 1982 Z-28 Camaro, they also installed it at the time.Sure did work nice.
Anyhow, were they able to help you ??

which side of the city and how much are you willing to spend ?

Mississauga Engines in Streetsville may do it but if not he can recommend someone ( typically they only install what they work on so if you ask him to "go-thru" the motor they'll install as well ). Shop is run by Caesar and his son. SBC and Hemi motors are their specialty. They get a bad rap from the import crowd

Jim at Transmere Transmission in Mississauga is another guy into the car scene. He runs a full service shop and if he cant do it can likely recommend someone who can.

Both these guys are pretty tight in the west-end GTA car club scene. There is another trans shop shop in Milton ( Milton trans ) that has a pretty good rep as well and came highly recommended when I was looking for a trans / driveline guy.

East-end, I don't have any contacts any more but I am sure one of the local guys will chime in.

If you hit up the local car clubs they tend to have a short-list of guys they all use. Just keep in mind the Labour rate will be $90-$120 /hr + for a 6-8 hr job.

If you have not purchased the motor yet I know that Caesar 5 + SBC motors in various stages of assembly. He might be cheaper than buying a crate motor if that's what you are thinking. Beatty and Woods are another great shop and they have an in-house dyno but they don't do installs ( but might recommend someone )

Good luck

I got a quote from active engines , was impressed with their shop and customer service. They definitely dont cut any corners. But at thier price I could only afford the engine rebuild with my old parts. I would like a 350 motor dressed with a trans that would have a nice aggressive sound, I have a budget of $8000 not sure if I'm being unrealistic. I will check mississauga engines this week I've dealt with them in the past and they do good work. But IMO both these shops offer quality work but at the higher end if the pay scale. If I had the cash definitely choose one of them.

Just out of curiousity, what kind of budget do you have? Would your budget allow for a new crate engine from GM? Brand new, and it comes with a warranty.

What engine and transmission are you starting with? In my area $8000 would get you more than a stock rebuilt 350 installed. The USD and CAD aren't too far apart, roughly $.13
These two items would run you $6700 leaving plenty for shipping and install,(if you can source them in your area)

I did the crate engine example because it is all brand new and complete with good power.
Keep costs down and reuse the original exhaust for now.
If emissions are a factor this may not be ideal. But More options are available.
You could reuse your original engine if it is a 350 but chances are its a 2 bolt main block with crappy heads.
Your original transmission will also be cheaper to rebuild than the example above, unless it's a th250.
That crate engine can also be had with fewer accessories if you choose to reuse you own, saving $1000. http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet+Perform ... 8/10002/-1

There are cheaper options as well,

Add a little more cam to any of these and you'll be well over 300 hp. Also for the initial savings on these engines you can add flat top pistons relatively cheap. 400 hp isn't hard or expensive with these engines.
