My cutlass cruiser is a little difficult to start so I was investigating the vacuum hoses today and found that some are loose and some aren't connected. I am not sure where they all go. I have the official service manual on CD but it's kind of hard to tell from that manual. I hope someone can help.

1) EGR valve - these vacuum hose doesn't connect to anything. The end of it is just laying near the carb.

2) What is that black canister called that is sitting on the opposite side from the battery? One of the hoses from it is not connected to anything and is just laying in front of the carb.

3) The carb I have is a dualjet 210. At the very bottom front this is a large port (~3/16" diameter) with nothing connected to it. What hose is supposed to go there?

That's all for now.

I found the canister in my service manual. The hose that isn't connected is the hose from the "VAPOR PURGE TO CARBURETOR" connector. Which connector on the carburetor is for vapor purge?

if you have the service manual, why are you asking us? READ! its good for ya 8)

Sadly, the Olds service manuals don't explicitly show the vacuum hose routing (yeah, go figure). On my 307 I needed to figure it out using both the CSM diagrams and the decal under the hood. It makes no sense...

Yea, the service manual is a little lacking when it comes to the details. I think it assumes you have had GM training or something. The cowl sticker that shows the emission hose routing is messed up on my car so it is no help. It would be a good idea to start photographing ones that are good and making an archive of them somewhere. If anyone has a 79 Cutlass with a 4.3 and has a good sticker I would love to have a photo of it.

I think I have figured out all of the connections except for the one from the charcoal canister. Maybe someone can look at their car and help me. Mine has 4 hoses. 2 of them are from the pressure valve on top. Another goes back to the fuel tank. And then there is one more and I do not know where it goes.
