442/GN rear end questions

so i have a 86 442 and i jacked the back up and spun a wheel, the other spun the opposite way so that means no posi right? ok so it should at least have 373s right? next question is what it the spline count so i can find a posi carrier? i do not know much about the 8.5, what cars should i be looking for to find a posi carrier for it?

I think you can just pull one from a 90's Chevy full size truck or van, so long as it has a 3 series case.

All 442's have 3.73's.

Axles for 8.5" are 28 spline.
Axles for 7.5" are 26 spline.

I think those later trucks have 30 or 31 splines, but I'm not positive.

i assume with the spline count you are refering to g bodies only?

ok, the reason i asked is because i pulled a carrier from a 7.5 in a bravada awhile back and it was a 28 spline. well, i guess i am on a search for a 8.5 posi out of something.....

7.5 have both 26 & 28 spline axles,i'll research the 8.5.. :wink:

Ya around 88 the 7.5's went to the 28 splines.
