I bought a 442 with a SBC in it, 200r4 CZ, 3.73 running stock size tires.

My car runs about 2000 RPM at 45 mph. Is that a little high RPM for that speed? I don't believe my TC is locking up. Will this cause damage to the trans? I plan on installing a manual lock up kit soon if need be.

In what gear? OD? You might wanna check out the situation on your TV cable. (throttle valve cable) Does this SBC have an aftermarket Holley or Edelbrock carb? If so, you might need a geometry correcting bracket for your TV cable. An improperly adjusted TV cable can cause downshifts with minimal throttle input while you're cruising. It can also cause extreme short-shifting when you try to pass someone.

Yes, while in OD. I can watch (the rpm drop) and feel the car shift into all four gears. It doesn't have any symptoms that you described either. I'm getting a little stumped with the situation now. Thanks for the input.

Any yes, it has a demon carb on it with all aftermarket brackets.

That is about right depending on tire size if 2004R is in 4th non locked with that rear end... If it shifts correctly, most likely it is the lockup solenoid or wiring to the solenoid is bad( wiring can get melted on exhaust if not routed correctly).

Something must be awry, my car cruises at 72 mph at 2000 rpm I have a 8.5 rear with 3.42 gears.

Unless you have 19" tires, something is definitely wrong.

My wagon has 215/ 60 X15's (about a 25" tire), a TH2004R, and 3.73 rear end. At 2000 rpm and in OD, it's doing a little under 60 mph, about 58 or so. In third gear at 2000 rpm, it's about 40 mph

Have you verified the speedometer and Tachometer. My expereince has been that factory tachometers are not necessarly the most accurate.

Almost sounds like it is locking up but isn't going into overdrive. 1-2-3-lockup then not going into OD. If you can feel 3 shifts and your speed and rpm is verified, sounds like your still in 3rd gear. You should be closer to 65mph in locked OD.

Your car is rejecting the Baboon heart transplant . Seriously, the lock up only drops the rpm 200 to 300 rpm in my experience. What does it run at 60 mph? Mine runs at 1850 rpm at 60 mph, 3.42 gears with short 25.6" tires.

My GN with a 200r4 converted to non lockup converter 27" tire 3.42 gears . @50mph is 2050rpm
