its not a g body but alot looks the same underneith 4x4 82 chevy k10 shortbed silverado 350ci 700r4 swap to new 700r4 if it didnt have the four wheel drive i could swap it easy but i would like to get a little more info before i tear into the truck the thing that turns the front wheel drive shaft?? what do i do with it during swap. i appreciate any posts and contributions to this post thanx
 
I hope you're not just screwing around, or I'll feel like an idiot for answering this...

Anyway, the part in question is called a transfer case, and is bolted to the back of the transmission with 6 bolts IIRC.

It is lighter than the transmission, but awkward.

You really should pull both drive shafts or at least make sure they are disconnected from the transfer case before removing it to make it easier. Sometimes I leave them hooked to the axles if they have slip yokes and just drop them from the transfer case.

There is linkage to a shifter and maybe a vacuum line or electric switch to look for for the 4x4 light on some models, as well as the speedometer cable, and a case vent.

You may have to drop the crossmember to pull the transmission, I do not remember on that old of a truck, it has been a while since I messed with one.

I drain them before removing to save taking a fluid shower. You can do it however you like.
