Anyone know how to tell an 8.5 G body rearend from a 7.5 without removing the rearend cover??? I have 2 G-body posi's and i don't know how to identify them. Thanks for all the help!!!!!!

I believe 7.5s have the fangs and the 8.5s dont.

8.5 has ears on the bottom,7.5 does not.....If its out of a G Body, the only cars that have them are 86-87 442's,84-87 turbo Regals, and some 84-87 station wagons although the wagons have different shock mount locations...

That's only partially true.

8.5" rears came only in the following G-bodies:
'84 Hurst/Olds (NOT '83)
'85-'87 442's
'84-'87 Turbo Buicks

That's all.

'84-'87 station wagons don't exist, since production of G-body wagons ceased in '83. The '78-'83 wagon rears are the same as any other G-body.

84 Hurst Olds doesnt have an 8.5 and im pretty sure the 85 doesnt either....

You and that other guy are wrong.

Both the '84 H/O and the '85 442 have the 8.5 axle.
