I'm sure this is a question that's been answered before, and if you could simply direct me to a thread that answered it, that would be great too. Anyway, I have a chance at getting 1969 327 SBC and a 1986 700R-4 for little or no money at all. My question is about the 700R-4; does it require any modification to the transmission tunnel or other areas to fit a 700R-4 in a G-Body? I have a 231 and a BOP TH350C, so I can't use my current transmission. Will the driveline length be the same? Are all of the connections the same? I already have a OD 4-Speed shifter, and I can modify my console if need be, but will it work? I'm not going to go ahead with this "new" trans if it requires too much modification.
Any information is great, Thanks

You have to buy the Iceman crossmember, or a different brand crossmember and install it first. The yoke and driveshaft will not mate up. The 327 requires different motor mounts. It's a great swap opportunity, but it would bolt up directly to monte carlo besides the yoke. It will require hundreds of dollars extra parts to do on cutlass than it would cost on monte carlo. It is only a 'good idea' b/c you said you could get it for 'next to nothing'. If you were paying nearly $1,000 to get all this stuff it would be kind of a stupid swap but if someone is just giving it to you then its not.

You don't need a different cross member. Slot the hole and trim off the corner that touches the transmission. Have your driveshaft cut 3 inches so it is 49.5" center to center of the u joints. Your T350 slip yoke is the same spline as a 700r4 output shaft. No mods needed for the tunnel. You will need different frame mounts as mentioned. Check this out. Should answer any questions you might have.

What he said, I did my Camino this way. I also modified a shift cable bracket from a 2004R to fit the pan bolt pattern on the 700 so my floor shifter would work.

Trust me, if I found a 200-4R then it would already be in the car, with Lightning Rods

just b/c he doesn't 'have' to buy the crossmember doesn't mean he should *n't. It's only a few hundred bucks and it strengthens the integrity up front. It's specifically designed with Cutlass in mind since the chevrolet parts are not an exact fit. They will not just slap into place like on your guys cars you are mistaken. Not saying it can't be done that way but why not just do it the right way w the crossmember the 1st time instead of having to redo it at a later date
