Hey Fellas,

I finally got my whole drive train in my 87 442. Long story short, I put in a 700R4 and am having issues of the gear linkage working properly. VERY stiff and doesnt go into all the gears when selecting them on the floor shifter. Would this be a matter of adjusting the linkage cable that attached to the side of the transmission? Am I too far back so that it wont engage all the gears?

Before I get back to work on it, Id like some insight if anyone has done this to there G body....

Thanks!

Are you actually using linkage bars or a Morse cable? I have a 700R4 in My 85 Regal. I have a floor shifter though which uses a cable shifter which is just a matter of adjusting it for proper length of pull. If you are actually using linkage bars you will have to do some fabrication and adjustments because the angle and length is different.

Agreed......and you must have in a sweeping arch if using a study cable (B&M) and the of the cable the rod attaching to the trans must be straight with no binding. Mine loops around under the trans tailhousing to trans linkage.........

I'm using, trying to use the stock linkage bars and cable. Is there an after market solution? Any pics would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Its a floor shifter. I just purchased the B&M Sport Shifter. Installed it but shift cable is binding a bit coming off the shifter through the floor in the car....

I had to "modify" the tunnel hole slightly when I installed my floor shifter so that the angle of the cable went through floor straighter.

Now I understand what you have and I too had to make the factory shifter hole bigger to get a proper angle out the shifter. My cable loops around the passenger side back under the tail housing to the trans shifter position selector....its firm but no binding up at all.....
