Ok, so there is a junkyard right near my house that has a 78 or 79 turbo regal. I am wondering what good parts would be on it. As I never really got to check as the springs and shocks are toast, so its almost laying on the ground.

Its red on red, with the factory buick rallies, and the 3.8 turbo of course. Just wondering what suspension and drivetrain (sp?) parts would be on it. What rearend and gears and stuff.

Its a very salvageable car, with a complete engine rebuild of course, but its very solid. the owner is not planning on being around next winter, so he is crushing a lot. the sad thing is that there is probably 20-30 g-bodies and a lot of old chevelles, and a ton of 70's and 80's camaros and 'birds.

My dad just told me that he would buy the car for me if I got straight A's in school. thats my kind of insentive!!

These early Turbo Regals are more of a curiosity than anything really good. Old turbo cars tend to die of neglect, and I would venture to guess that the turbine is either seized or has excessive shaft play. It would be a cool car to swap another engine into, and some of the specific turbo parts may be worth some money. Other than that, the gearing isn't too great, and the sway bars may be the better ones. Working it would be worth more than a normal Regal, but the cost of getting it all to work as the General intended would be more than the value added by keeping it original. Even when new these things didn't work all that well because the carbureted turbo systems of this era suffered from detonation. When GM first made turbo cars in 1962 (Corvair/Jetfire), they had water/alcohol injection to stop the detonation. These cars had no such system.

detonation doesn't sound very good to me  , but it's something to get me to work hard in school, and personally like the looks of it, but well see if I can pull off the grades 🙂 I might get it and part it out, IDK I like the turbo though.

FYI the Corvair Spyder turbo did not have water injection, just a straightforward turbo unit....I know, I have one.
